Porto Metro
The Porto metro (Metro do Porto) is Portugal's second subway system after the first subway system opened in Lisbon.
The Metro do Porto is an electrified, light-rail network operated by Transdev that runs underground for 8 km in downtown Porto and over ground in the suburbs.
At present (2023) there are six lines on the Porto metro, 82 stations and 67 km of track most of which is over ground.
Porto Subway Lines
Work began in 2002 on the network and the six lines are:
Line A (Blue Line) runs from Senhor de Matosinhos in Matosinhos to Estádio do Dragão via Trindade in downtown Porto.
Line B (Red Line) runs from the seaside resort and port of Póvoa de Varzim via Vila do Conde to Estádio do Dragão.
Line C (Green Line) operates from ISMAI to Estádio do Dragão.
Line D (Yellow Line) runs from João de Deus and Vila Nova de Gaia in the south of the city before crossing the River Douro and passing through central Porto via Trindade to Hospital São João in the north. An extension of the line to Vila D'Este is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2024. Line D is the busiest on the network.
Line E (Violet Line) connects Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport to Trindade and then via Campanhã to Estádio do Dragão.
Line F (Orange Line) connects Senhora da Hora and Fânzeres.
Trindade is the main hub station and connects with all six lines.
Future Expansion
Line G (Pink Line): Will connect Casa da Música to São Bento through Cordoaria. Construction began in 2020 and the new line is expected to go into service at the end of 2024 or the start of 2025.
Line H (Ruby Line): A new line is planned to connect Casa da Música Station in Porto with Santo Ovídio station in Vila Nova de Gaia. Work will involve a new bridge over the Douro located about 500 meters east of the Ponte da Arrábida. It will serve only the Metro and pedestrians. Construction will be put out for tender in 2023 with the new line planned to enter service in 2026. It will have six new stations - Campo Alegre, Arrábida, Candal, Rotunda VL8, Devesas and Soares dos Reis and will be over six km in length.

Porto Subway Fares & Tickets
The Andante card is valid for the Metro, STCP buses or CP suburban trains. There are various types of Andante Card available.
The Andante Tour 1 day card (valid for 24 hours after first use) and the 3 day card (valid for 72 hours after first use) costs 7 Euros or 15 Euros respectively. All types of Andante cards can be purchased from Andante Stores (there's one at Porto Airport), Porto tourism offices and all STCP and metro ticket machines and counters. Validate your card before entering the platforms and when changing lines. This Andante card is aimed at foreign visitors to the city.
The Andante 24 card is valid for 24 hours and allows unlimited use of the Metro, STCP buses or CP suburban trains. The card is activated on first use. The price varies on which zones you will be using the card.
The Andante Azul card costs 0.60 Euro and can then be charged and recharged. If you buy 10 journeys in a particular zone you get one free. The fare increases for zones outside the city center. The cost of 10+1 journeys in Zone2 is presently 12 Euro.
Porto Metro's trains are fast and frequent and the system is easy to use. Trains run from 6 am-1 am daily. From July 1, 2014, the Move Porto scheme sees a 24 hour service on Friday & Saturdays on the Yellow Line (D), between Santo Ovídio and Hospital S. João, and on the Blue Line (A), between Estádio do Dragão and Senhora da Hora.
The Move Porto scheme compliments the all night service of Porto buses with buses M buses running about every hour.
Normal bus services begin around 6 am.
The Porto Metro is barrier-free and space within the carriages is reserved for people using wheelchairs or using baby-cars.
The Guindais funicular connects Ribeira to Batalha and is part of the Metro do Porto network.
Coin Lockers
There are coin lockers at Trindade Station in 3 sizes: small (36 x 48 x 75 cm), medium (36 x 65 x 75 cm) and large (36 x 99 x 75 cm). The lockers can be used for up to 7 days. The price for 24 hours is Small (4.50 Euro), Medium (6 Euro), Large (7.50 Euro).
At Trindade Station the lockers are available from 6 am-1 am.
There are over 30 coin lockers Small, Medium, and Large at São Bento railway station.
